Cacti and other succulents are relatively undemanding and rarely need to be watered or fertilised. Provided they are planted in a high-quality special soil. Cactus soil is air-permeable, rich in nutrients, stores water and gives the plants a firm hold.

When should I repot?

You should repot cacti and other succulents approximately every two to three years. On the one hand, because over time salt accumulates in the mineral aggregates of the cactus soil due to watering and fertiliser. Secondly, if the pot has become too small and the roots are already growing out of the drainage holes at the bottom of the pot. The best times for repotting are February and March as well as September and October. You should also repot newly purchased cacti, as many DIY stores often plant cacti in potting compost. However, this can damage the sensitive roots in the long term.

Pumice makes cactus soil air-permeable

Like most potting soils, soil for cacti and bonsai consists of mineral and organic components. Organic substances such as white peat supply the plants with nutrients as they decompose. Mineral components such as pumice and expanded shale loosen the soil and give it a crumbly structure. This not only protects against waterlogging, but also allows fine roots to take hold in small pots and absorb sufficient nutrients and water. In addition, our soil for cacti does not compact even after a long period of time and enables good rooting and aeration.

Soil increases the stability of cacti

Our ready-to-use cactus soil and bonsai soil also contains a high proportion of fresh natural clay. The clay minerals store water and nutrients and release them according to the lower, extended requirements of cacti, other succulents and bonsai. In combination with pumice, natural clay increases the stability of the plants in the pot.
